I have a CLK 320 99/V the problem I have is when I slow on approach to traffic lights, queued traffic etc if I have to wait a few minutes sometimes my engine cuts out ie;all the dash lights come on it but restarts easy enough usually in drive with foot on brake.
Also after starting in the morning the car can either go slow or it doesn't change gear very rapidly and rev counter goes up high.any ideas

That sounds strange as there is a stater lock out switch in the gearbox which should make it impossible to start when not in park or neutral.

Are you sure that it starts in drive?

If so then a electrical fault in the gearbox system is possible.

Other thoughts are the crank position sensor.

cutting out

HI
sounds like an airmass problem, best diagnosis is to borrow one and try it, the other possiblity is that it is early signs of a crank shaft position sensor, but these normaly fail when hot and need to be left to cool down for 15 minutes before the engine will restart

Yes agree, with the CPS the interval between stop and starting is much longer, often ½ hour, The MAF fits the bill much better, on many car you can just unplug it to see how the car runs.. When it is the MAF 99% perform much better, though we had a car last night where this was not the case
