Driving home from work this morning I was looking at all the cars I passed or passed me and it got me wondering about changing my car for another model. Out of the hundreds of cars I saw I didn’t really like the look of that many, so my question is have manufactures let us down with there awful designs.

I often think that, So many manufacturers have gone the ugly route. Maybe it is us who just don't like modern design. Some, however have gone the other way like Ford with the Focus and Vauxhall with the Insignia. They are nice looking vehicles now. Only my opinion though

Unfortunately car design is a compromise which some manufacturers seem to handle better than others. Designing something that conforms to todays rules and regs, can be manufactured cheaply, is reliable and looks good is a tall order.

Still if money's no object............

If I am honest I usually find I don't like new models at first then they grow on me. I have found this with the McLaren Senna I hated it at first now I love them lol

Many thanks

I've been like this for years, stuff on the roads is so boring, many cars of the same brand sharing identical/similar styled parts.

Back in the day, everything was unique and interesting in its own way, now generally (with the odd exception) stuff is very plain, generally crap. This is all down to how stuff is made so cheaply these day, share the same components and knowing that people will just buy anything so long as its got a badge. I certainlly don't give stuff a second glance or would stop and stare at it from a window. I did mention some exceptions and one example for me is the 911. Despite the lack of the class 1980's and 993 big rear spoiler, arches etc, the 911 has grown more elegant and is one of the cars I can actually stare at. In RS or other special model variants they look sensational. Most of the BMWs look horrid but whilst I don't think the i8 is thing of beauty it still looks purposeful in a modern way and some how manages to work quite well capturing what the i8 signifies.

In the summer near me, there are some locals who use their toys for commuting in the forms of, Celica GT4, RS500 cosworth, Ferrari F355, Mercedes 320 CE, Meredes 420 SEC, BMW E30 M3, Morgan of some sort... how these things stand out and look awesome compared to everyting around them in the commute tickles my heart.

You have to remember that they are serving the "masses" - and very well too!

Although there are vast number motorists, there are very few "enthusiasts". To 99% a car is for getting from A to B as quickly, comfortably and economically as possible, which again most cars do boringly well....

It's supply and demand.

To be honest even "Exotic" marques aren't that exotic anymore.

I can quite honestly say that even if I had the money I would still prefer to have the older, more charismatic cars. The only difference being is that I would be able to afford top keep them in absolutely perfect running condition! :D
