I've just had my SLK diseasel in for it's first service at 1 year/10,800 miles.

I've had it back almost a week and there's a big improvement in mpg - I'm getting a solid 62mpg in the mornings (previously I could only manage this in very slow traffic if I really kept a light foot on the throttle and "tickled" it (as a friend of mine says).

What's caused this I wonder? I doubt it's had a new air filter - so just the new oil?

Don't think so - it's actually been very nice up here for a while now - except since it was serviced when it's been a bit rubbish. Due to pick up on Thursday though

They've probably re-calibrated the trip computer! :)

Did you do brim-to-brim MPG calculations before the service that you could compare to post service results? Really needs to be done over a few tank-fulls with a diesel as it's hard to fill them up to the same level each time.

I've had my E220CDI in for some work on a possibly faulty airbag, and in the process they must have disconnected the battery or something as all my displays were re-set. From Feb to June my average was 42.2 mpg, and in the one week since I got the car back I'm up in the 47-48 range. I had been already noticing a gradual improvement over the spring as weather got gradually warmer, so I'm putting this sudden jump down to that (plus perhaps the engine becoming run-in, it now has 20k on the clock). At least I'm not aware of any work other than the airbag having been done, so hard to see how that might improve fuel economy!

Did they inadvertantly switch off the air conditioning/climate control?
(My MPG figures improve enormously when it's switched off!)

Yes. They rock (except the noise is a bit bobbins).
204bhp (or is it 201?), 500nM torque  , 151mph, 0-60 6.7s.

The in-gear oomph is amazing.

And this was my mpg this morning driving to work...

Astonishing mpg. Must be a great engine. Is it a 220 cdi?

I wondered that, maybe you can get one now ? Good idea if so.

they have been about for a while now. since the release of the R172

odd as its still driving the compressor, which is the part that takes the energy and uses the extra fuel. makes so little difference to mine, i never switch it off, on my 2001 C220 cdi
