Car stuck in park

I have a 2011 W212 E 350 base model, this morning I went out to go to work and the car will not go into D or R or any gear, it is stuck in park. It has never done this before, I do have a feeling the transmission is starting to exhibit shifting issues and the shift changes are not as smooth and there is some reeving under acceleration. Any advise would be great, not looking forward to having it towed to my shop today.

A common fault is with the brake switch. Cheap easy fix if it is that.
You can bypass the interlock manually too to get you home.

Pull the gearstick surround to locate the emergency release and push it down. That's what had to be done after Halfords boogered my S204 after attaching a 12V battery to the OBD port while changing the main battery - a mistake that cost them 3174 for getting it all corrected, and resulted in a company wide notice to employees!!
