Is anyone in the trade or has a Cap Black Book? I'm going with my parents to get them a new car, but I could do with knowing what they'll get for theirs first. Then I'll know if they're being conned or not. If I know how much they're likely to offer I can plan accordingly. I can also tell them that their valuation is far too low if they don't offer what the Cap Black Book suggests.

Ta very much.

I would guess Parkers would be a reasonable substitute guide - but I dare say you already know that.
Post the all the relevant details here and we would be happy you give you our guesstimate/valuation.

For £3.50 this is a good deal, have a look at the example, you get loads of info....................

Hi,
I've found that Parker's guide is pretty close to reality. If you're trading a car with poor emissions/economy be ready for a shock...! Values have been thumped this last few months.

the cap black book is still only a guide and the dealer will offer what seems reasonable in his area at the time.

They do not deliberately give a reduced value as they need to do the business. BUT they are realistic.

As above post, most cars are below book at present as there really IS a tightening of the money belts at present - I can see it happening, as I work in financial services and also take an interest in cars and subscribe to car mechanics which features a small trader's activities.
