ive not seen anyone put vinyl on the trim yet in an MB but ive seen it used on lesser cars and its a nightmare to apply without bubbles in the vinyl, or bubbles appearing with the heat of the sun through the windows on hot days when the car is parked.

Malcolm (television) did however remove his trims and paint them to update them a bit. there are photos of it somewhere on here. he made an excellent job, i must say, and the finished result looks like it left the factory that way! my advice would be update by all means, but do it either with replacement trim (expensive) or by carefully preparing and painting your own. id not even consider the vinyl myself.

Please don't Merk, there's something so reassuringly comforting about sliding onto the comfortable armchair surrounded by sumptuous mushroom leather with the contrast of fine wood, and that oh so old fashioned dashboard complete with analogue instruments.

Compare with the cloned interior found in most other cars...acres of black plastic with the statutory centre console resplendent in imitation plastic aluminium or the equally hideous imitation carbon look.

That muck really is best left to Barry's souped up Saxo with it's heady mixture of drain pipe exhausts and mp3 dump valve sound effects (i joke not about the last item), decorated by the Barry girl friend, the description of which is not possible this side of hades.

Other views are acceptable too..;)

i did suggest this at the start of the thread i believe Malcolm, and, as ive said before, i think yours looks great in your car and the finish etc looks like it left the factory that way! a good paint job will always win over a vinyl sticker job, in my opinion :cool:

The advantage of spraying black is that you can fill all of the marks and cracks with P38 and it cannot be seen when painted

It would have to be a finish of that quality..and mine isn't a sports model (and i probably don't have the required patience!)

the only patience required is to make sure everything is thoroughly rubbed down, clean and smooth between coats, and that you dont try to put too much paint on at once, leaving you with runs! patience isnt really required as such, its just something you cant try to rush!

Even made me curious about how a darker coat would look in my interior...must resist the temptation. :)

Has anyone here seen a w124 with Black Birdseye Wood Trim or Dark interior?

Yes I have seen a 126 finished in a blackish tint,,so that the grain still shows through.

What you do to get that look is to thin down some black, and just count how many gun passes it takes to get the desired shade. you count so that they will all be the same.

You can then spray some 2 component plastic clear if you have a spray plant,,or use aerosols. This effect leaves the colour under the gloss and it looks good

Will be something I keep in mind when I do my AMG project. Next year. :)
Think my zebrano trim is too perfect to mess around with.

But starting from scratch, I would consider it.

I can always do it for people with a glass like piano finish
