carplay help

hello all,

i have a C300 AMG Line spec which says its should have Apple Carplay. i have played around with it this morning and it wither hasn't got it, or i just cant find it, while typing this my daughter is trying to sort it but not sure if she will succeed.
Hopefully someone can answer the following.
does this spec have Apple Carplay?
if so is there a step by step guide anywhere that i can follow, i've done the Youtube thing already.

also while i am here, can i use my phone as a hotspot for the car to access more features?

i've had the car for six months but only just started to look into these things

all help appreciated.

i have had a C300 AMG Line since March and have just looked into Apple Carplay, the spec says it has it but i can seem to get it done.

i have uploaded a couple of images of what i have found, my daughter is playing around with it to see if she can get it done.
firstly, does this spec have CARPLAY? i have checked the usual Youtube vids etc which seem to say yes, so if this is the case does anyone have a simple step by step i could follow?

Also, is it possible to have my phone as a hotspot for the car to use some of the other features like internet radio?

Hi there, It was brand new in March this year.
It’s a 20 reg so assume it’s the 2020 model.
I will try to dig out the invoice to see if it has any details on there but appreciate any help.

Car play seems to be a strange muddle of confusion with two totally different set ups sharing the same name....

early adopters (circa 2016 to 2017) or cheaper models cars, can only do wired apple car play

cars fitted with a wifi receiver can do wireless apple car play....

but I believe even when you have the posh version on the car for this to function correctly you must have both wifi and Bluetooth turned On and connected correctly... the data goes over wifi, with the control protocols going over Bluetooth.... AKA a nasty bodge up

Are you using a lead from the designated Apple carplay USB port ?

Looking at your photos it’s the new MB system it’s installed but not activated believe you have to pay a fee to activate it

I guess if you don't have it but are desperate to go from cable free 2020's back to the nightmare of wires circa 2007 just so you can see an apple icon... you need to remember 20% of the time it means you'll have left the phone vulnerable, overheating and stuck in the car just at the vital moment you desperately need to use it. But for those icon lovers rest assured third party vendors did it all wrong for 500 quid too.

All rather strange when a good wifi card is only £10 !!!


How To Setup Wireless Apple CarPlay in Your BMW

1. Select the BMW iDrive Communications Menu.
2. Select Manage Mobile Devices.
3. Select Connect New Device.
4. Select Apple CarPlay.
5. Select Confirm to Send Data to Your Apple iOS Device.
6. Turn On Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Siri on Your Apple iPhone.
7. Select General in the Settings Menu and CarPlay.

C Class Saloon - 2018 C300 AMG Line Edition 4dr 9g Tronic -2019

i dont think i have it on this car but will check with the dealer.

its strange as the cars for sale now which i assume are the same build time list it, but on the new car configurator it doesnt!

not the end of the world if its not on the car, just thought i would have a play and see.

If you download the Mercedes store app it will give the options of buying available services , so if your car is Apple CarPlay ready you will be able to buy it through the app

defo has 9speed box, as it said 2018 c300 and then 2019 at the end, but purchased in 2020 not entirely sure what year it would be classed as?

tried the Vin number but it comes back as too new and not been added to database yet.

Try mbdecoder

It will give you the options.

I am sure you will have it. I use android, with that you need to download the relevant app on your phone plug it in to the relevant USB on the car and then navigate to the relevant place in the system...you can then set it to start automatically on plug in...

By the way it is a great feature.

so i tried MBdecoder and the spec of my car doesnt include Apple Carplay :-(
im sure i was told it had it when purchased but cant really remember, might chance my luck when i get it serviced and see what they say.
