I have a 1994 C200 1997cc import from Germany it came here in 1995. I need a catalytic converter, where is the cheapest place to get this done? I live in the Southampton area, and have been quoted massive prices from the usual sources. The car is an Elegance. Any help would be appreciated.

I've got a used one if that's any help.

Note that you'll have to find one from a LHD car as the RHD ones differ.

Is it for a MOT?

I'm sure one of the forums recently had advice that a car will pass an MOT without one as long as the emissions are low enough. The cat itself is not tested.

As per Russ above, give it a good Italian tune up put some good quality fuel in it give it a good long run then have the MOT station test the emissions straight away whilst it is still hot. As long as you pass the emissions in doesn't matter that you don't have a CAT

Thanks for replies, I used yellow pages and found a small local exhaust firm that put a new cat in for about half price I was quoted from the "big boys". I hadn't tried that before I came on the forum, as it was after 5.30 on a friday night.
