You can get places to remove them, you may need a remap to turn off warning lights, depending on which catalyst it is.
As above, in the UK it's illegal and MOT centres are asked to specifically check that a catalyst appears to be present. Not sure about the Northern Ireland test centres, but I would imagine that its similar.
That said, if the catalyst substrate is rattling then it's obviously broken not sure whether that will trigger a failure on the annual test, but you could always look into cutting out the old one and replacing it with an aftermarket catalyst rather than an MB one.
