Hi,
Could you plz, whoever knows, put a light on this- My W124 200E catalyst converter broke down, therefore when I push a gas, it makes strange noise. Can I assemble the catalyst converter (frontier) like it is in rear end? Thanks for any replies

Do you think it will affect the engine and the silencers following the catalyst? Please, reply

Some says cats may be replaced with flame dampers which are cheaper and lives long as the millage is high. Even original cats wear out in short term in old cars.... What about this? Anybody replaced cat with flame dampers (for ex, from Walker or Bosal)

Never herd of a Flame Damper.... you could cut the Cat out and put some straight pipe in or get a standard exhuast section...

Dont know what the law is in Azerbaijan but in the UK you do not require a Cat upto 1993.

Sensible solution here.....

why dont you put straight through (freeflow) exhaust and buy a cheap but working CAT from the scrappers! Only put the scrapper cat on before MOT, then switch back afterwards! Upside, better economy, power and a much nicer un-muffled sound?

We have the same law here. Regarding the cut out, dont you think it will affect the middle and rear silencers? One of the function of the cat, is to lower the exhaust gas affect to the following silencers....

That is one of the options I may consider. So, what the garage will do is to replace the broken cat with the scrapper cat, isnt it?

The Silencers will be fine

I have no silencers on my car (Except the rear RAGE Performance box which doesnt realy silence anything anyway ;) )

PsMart meant Buy a new Straight through pipe (No Catlaytic converter) and fit that to the car. If it fails the MOT or if you want to make sure it passes the emissions goto the Scrap yard and buy a Cheap Working Cat and fit that before you get it MOT, once its passed the MOT, Bang the New Straight through pipe back onto the car and keep the cheap cat in the garage or shed somewhere ready for next year :)

a Cat reduces emissions but also Increases Fuel usage and lowers performance, Removing it gives Better economy and better performance, Pus you will save alot of money from not replacing it...

Thanks Steve-O, I got your point. Instead of buying a new straight pipe, I can just cut the front box and remove the cat, then weld the box back (that is better economy :)). I think it will work, huh?
p.s.: I didnt know the cat increases the fuel usage...

If you cut out the cat and replace with exhaust pipe will this make the exhaust noisy?
Thanks.
