I read on other posts that when the catalytic convertor goes an option is to just to remove it.I take it therefore the space that is created by its removal has to be replaced by a piece of exhaust pipe welded on.Will there be any side effects of this action,ie noiser sound etc.will the car pass an mot. Thanks

I think what's done is the box is cut open the catalytic "brick" removed and the box welded back up

With a angle grinder a hole can be cut and the Cat removed, then welded up again, Thats what I did.

The Cat is very soft and crumbly.
