Hello, would anyone have experience of a category N write off please? I understand that this means the car is structurally intact, however is there a great deal of trouble in getting insurance on it once up and running again or selling it on...

Thanks a lot!!! The guy gave me the spiel about not being able to insure it etc.., the repair is double the worth of the car... new engine for a SL500... ouch... Just checking my options... perhaps it’s a pipe dream.. I have seen a similar car, colour combo (uncommon), year just different tyres and I think a lower spec interior, so their valuation is lower as expected but by a significant amount. insurance should put me in a similar car, so been frantically checking out motor guru to put me in that car or pay out the right amount at the very least....

Have had amny Cat S, Cat N, no issues. Just make sure you are happy with the repairs and the MOT, otherwise all good. Could save yourself some money. Never had any issues insuring but then again never had to make any claims against one. I would happily buy a Cat N.

what would you do?.. 25k on a new engine or spread that cost over the years on a new Car?

Could you clarify what you mean? £25k to spend on a car that needs a new engine???

25k is the cost of repair (new engine as a bus flooded mine a few weeks ago), or get a new car and spread the cost..I just put 25k for a new car as it’s equivalent to the repair

You should be able to get an engine for a lot less than £25k. The m113 5.0l V8 is a common power plant used in a lot of MB's and is pretty bombproof.
