CD and DVD player not functioning

When I bought the 2004 211 the CD changer would not open, however when I was changing the gear selector module I must have knocked something under the unit and the draw was opened. I removed all the 6 CD's and closed it. It hasn't open since. The car didn't come with a owners hand book, just a DVD work manual. This I tried to insert in the DVD slot but it wont except the disc, I don't wont to force it in just in case it damages anything.
I have also noticed that I can't select any radio stations apart from 2 pre programmed stations that were already in the system.
I then took the phone from my 55 and put into the cradle to see if this works. It charges and rings but only on the phone itself. So this too isn't responding to the control buttons on the Nav unit or the steering wheel.
Anyone have an ideas or is it best to pester my neighbour again for his scanner

Good news and bad news.
CD changer works.........'Great, how did you fix it I hear you ask'? Don't ask!!
Bad news is I thought I would try the DVD in the slot, as it won't grab the disc, so forced it in and now it is stuck inside the unit
I think there is now 2 DVD's stuck in there. .
Phone still won't work through the Command Unit although it displays everything on the Command screen.
I do now know how to tune in the radio stations
So glad my eldest came to visit today

how does the phone work.....

go on a chassis decode tool and see if it came with a phone system, https://www.lastvin.com/ my fathers didn't but an aftermarket gadget brings BT media streaming and bt calls as if it was factory fit. But to connected it up you disconnect the cd multichanger under the radio

nothing lasts forever - a 16 year old cd changer and or the head unit may well be dead

The hand piece I took from the 55 to try in the e class. It came with factory phone installation, but on closer inspection of the cradle just sits loose in the centre console so I think it has been replaced with the same type that is fitted to my 2002 SL55. The bed in the centre console in the 2004 211 has 2 tiny screws still in place which tells me that a different type of phone was originally fitted.
I will remove the command unit and take it to the local TV repair man to have a look at it, it could well be passed its use by date
