Hiya,

Happy New Year Folks.....

A new year and a new problem... I ejected the changer mag and inserted some new CD's.... now I keep getting magazine empty.... I tried different CD's and the old ones and still the same message. When I listen to the noise the changer makes when loading, you hear a quick buzz and then it tries the next cd until it gets to the 6th and then says Magazine empty.....

Any Ideas......

Cheers

I will have a look at mine in the morning to see if there any lugs that could break off or take a photo of it.

What a nice fix that could be, who knows.

Hi Malcom,

Not sure a pic will help. When I bought the car a month ago all worked fine. I swapped cd's and apart from the odd Mag Empty message which cleared after an eject and reinsert, all was fine. Since the last change of cd's it does not recognise that there are cd's in the magazine, even thou I only changed two.

Is there a way to 'reset' the whole system etc.....?

These things are all active and joined into the "Most" or "CAN" bus system.
you do have one fuse that you could withdraw to do a reset. Look at the fuse chart, it will be the same one for Command,TV,CD changer depending of the spec of the car. See what happens.

Thinking again on this, as the CD's are being fed in, it is not a Mag fault.
there are two ways that the unit knows that a CD is there, the common way is that the laser beam is interupted the gives the spindle motor a kick start to read the disc, the other way is a micro switch kick starts the spindle motor so that the laser can read the info. Lasers when weak often jump and skip before finally stopping or failing to read at all so I do not think that is the problem.
Though I have repaired thousands of them over the last 20 years I have not done one of these. Some where there is a lot of info on these units, I will do some searches to see if I can find anything.

Need a New Changer

Hi,

The fault has be diagnosed as a common problem with the CD changer devices, and the only fix is to have a new changer installed.

Can I use another one other than a MB one?

If so what make/model do I need?

I have a 2000 MDL S320 with Command

Thanks
