I sold a fellow the OEM CD head unit from my '96 S420 to put in his '95 E Class. He says the antenna won't work (go up or down). Any ideas of what might cause this? It worked fine for me. TIA.

Oh! Last night I just replace / install my new head unit into my 92' E300!! but is a Sony....
The Aerial control wire, should be a white one, for mine, and I think is the same as yours.
 Could you ask him to check the aerial control wire, see it was disconnected? if not, please check whether it have 12v output from the head unit to this cable, when the radio is on.
It is control the aerial motor, by sending out a 12 volt 'signal', from the head unit. If your head unit working fine, it should have 12 v send out, when the radio is on.
and when the radio off, the 12v signal will cut out, then the aerial will go down by itself.
If u brave enough, u could even connect live 12v into that white wire (toward to the aerial, not the head), and see whether the aerial motor work or not... but make sure u found the right one!!
I presume the head unit will only ask the aerial to go up, when the radio is on, not the CD or Tape... is depend on different manufacturer...
Hi Gary. That's what I told him. He says when he put his old radio back in, the antenna works. I got the unit back, tested it, it is fine, works in my car. I don't get it.

The wiring order and layout within the connector block may be different -you are going from different types of class S to E!
I must say that this seems unlikely though.
Did the unit work otherwise -did he get sound out of the CD/Cassette?
best wishes
O.
So if the plug was different, could you ask him to trace back the areial control wire from his old head unit, and coinnect it back to the new head unit? Beside, I presume the wire colour should be the same (I think).
