Bring it down to Bristol and let Steve@Avantgarde or Steve@ThreePoints have a look at it. If they can't fix it, no-one can.
BG Griffiths only charge £25 for a Star diagnosis, also Bristol based, if that's the only reason for taking it to the dealer.

As for the other parts you've had replaced, I'd say that aside from the TCU, they're all par for the course. Not so much item failure as service items at that age and mileage.

Thanks. Wish I still lived in Cheltenham and I would. Thanks for all the other comments and posts. i have tried Shell V - and put some in regularly now. It's still sounding blood awful, esp now the cold weather has set in. I am now wondering if the anti-knocking sensor could be the issue - but presumably that would throw an error? Will look for someone offering star diagnostics in the Derby/Notts area. I assume that star diagnostics will get info that goes further than codes?

P1664 Electric Heater Error

Just had a mobile diaognostic guy visit with STAR diagnostics. He came up with just this error. Could this be the issue? My local mech says nothing to do with it. Interested in anyone have experience with this error. Tks R

Electric heater booster draws a lot of amps when on. Heater is prone to fail, it drains the battery overnight if short-circuited. If it goes frequently on/off (half broken wire etc.), changing load to alternator may cause humping idle, some owners are complaining heater doing this also when heater is ok.

Rough

Hi Doc My C270 was rough from cold too, new engine mounts greatly improved things. Doesn't seem logical but several others found the same.
