Any suggestions as to likely cause(s), things to try? The rear battery is fully charged.

PSE Pump.
Its at the lowest point in the boot floor, surrounded by a foam material that absorbs and holds water which will eventually kill the pump.
They can also fail if the vanes in the pump break up and jam it or if the motor brushes wear down.

Thank you-sounds expensive. What else would not work if PSE pump fails?

Quite depressing picking up the foam and squeezing what seems like gallons of water out from a wet car. The smell tends to stick with you for awhile as well.

If you do have a leak, get that sorted before replacing the pump as you’ll only be replacing the pump again.

first class design again... and SAME thing happens to the Aclass. tho this is caused when the rubbish designed rear washer pipe falls off and all the water collects in the pump a cynic would suggest that this is no accident on both models , how can a car get thru warranty with this KNOWN design ,

You'd think they'd have learnt from the r129.
Mounted nice and high but placed directly under the fuel filler pipe. Rubber seal round the pipe leaks and drops water onto absorbent foam surrounding pump = dead pump (and no longer available new).

maybe the design team is on zero hr contract ! if not one has to ask how this kind of rubbish gets to production ,does it not rain in germany . i think they DID learn , keep the parts bins stocked up ,victims en route ! tho not in r129 case . i am therefore less than confident of the longevity of MANY benz components . that aside ,i am shocked to report that in stripping my spare A class i generated 2 ! full trailers of plastic.mostly poor quality brittle stuff. all at recycle now.

Re: my SL 350 central locking. PSE defunct, both pump and circuit board failed. Sponge rubber soaking wet. All as expected. Pump replaced with refurbed unit. Central locking, soft close, fuel filler cover all now work. What does not work is the roof and the roll bar. Coincidence, consequence or what? Any suggestions?

Look under rear seat, there are two relays one works the roof, one works the roll bar,Is it damp or wet there? If yes, then that's the problem.

You may need to clear any fault codes to get it working again.

Thank you, I will have a hunt around. At least now I can get in there with central locking active again.

Thank you for the advice. I have noticed that when I operate the roof switch, the windows drop a little and then immediately go back up. Should that tell me something?

Suggests something isn't being detected in the sequence or something is out of step or the electronics thinks there is a fault.

Some time later....it appears the hydraulic roof pump has failed. Can these be re-conditioned, repaired?

Cannot unlock boot with the key fob, the button on the driver's door or via the skeleton key. Other items running off PSE pump seem to work OK. Any idea how I can get into the boot?
