Hi,
All the functions you have mentioned require air, the air pump is located in the boot just in front of the fuel filler, behind the boot trim.
Switch the ignition on and listen for it if the system has a leak it will shut down after 10-15 seconds or so. If you can,t hear it running theres a good chance its U/S but confirm cable and plug integrity before condeming it.
The pumps have to be coded to the car so even a new one has to be programmed to your specific car before fitting.
Not sure whether they can be recoded once coded so a secondhand one may not be much use either.
I suspected mine at one time and was quoted £345 plus vat plus programming if remember rightly.

spoken to my local mercedes dealer, they say if i buy a new pump they think it might not come with the software fitted to code for the car,but they did say that they are 90% sure that if i buy a good second hand one that it is already got the software fitted and as it is not part of the security system as its only a compressor pump then it should work ok ,there mechanic says they not allowed to do this as obviously they are main agents and only alowed to fit new parts, can anyone else confirm this as i dont want to buy a secondhand one and have to code it,thanks

There are two diiferent types of central locking pumps. Take a picture of your pump and post. One of them is expensive and the other is cheaper.

The central locking pump is all interlinked with windows and alarm.
Only if you have the late type pump. That why if you post a picture I can see which one you have.
