I have an issue with my 1997 c180 w202.

The central locking stopped working the other day.

I can unlock and lock via the inside button so the vacuum still works but when I try unlock with the key it doesnt work. The lights on the review mirror dont flash either.

I have disconnected the battery, changed the battery in the key, tested the key(hold in button until the light flashes) also try to reset the key but putting it into the ignition to position 2 and holding in the button but nothing has worked!

Might be important to mention that my car got wet in the passenger foot well when it rained due to the blocked reservoir. Could this be the reason it isnt working? I read somewhere that there is a control unit on the passenger side?

Please help me!

If you have the flip-out style key the control unit coded with it is usually on the passenger floor (behind the foot plate) although I have also seen it behind the dash clocks.

It is a flip out key.

You say behind the foot plate? Where is that?

Is there a separate fuse for the central locking with the remote? As I mentioned, the button on the dash is working?

I will check the fuses and get back to you.

Hi,
In the passenger front floor well there is a plate bolted down to the firewall/floor, just below the dash, remove this. This is where the alarm control unit lives, it is a black box approx. 4"-5" square, it should have a pt. no. beginning in `Q`from memory, in the area of this control unit you should have a couple of inline fuse holders, these may of blown or in my case the fuse holders fell apart.
