Hi, i am trying to diagnose a central locking problem. Hope you can help, the facts are as follows:

- i only have the key, no fob.
- there is only 1 door with the manual key hole, the front passenger side. I can open thus door then lean over to pull the driver doors handle to release the door.
- to lock the doors i can push down all the lock buttons on the doors, either when their open or shut.
-HOWEVER I CAN ONLY PUSH DOWN THE LOCK ON THE DRIVERS DOOR WHEN THE DOOR US CLOSED NOT WHEN ITS OPEN.

This results in me having to lean through the passenger side and push down the lock. All advise is welcome.

Thanks, James

Smart + others :)
The remote key is missing, the locks are all working as they should, you could lock the drivers door via the o/s/r door to save reaching when locking.

not being able to push the button down on the drivers door lock when the door is open was designed to reduce the chances of locking the keys in the car by accident and is correct. id have thought on a 1995 car, there should be a remote fob of some kind, usually the flip out key at that age, to unlock the central locking, or it would make more sense to have a keyhole in the drivers door too

I realise i can lock it manually in a more efficient way but does anyone know what i need to be able to push the lock down on the drivers door when it is open? At the moment out won't budge unless the door is closed

you cant. as has been said, you are missing the remote fob.

There is no key hole in the drivers door, i also have no fob only a key.
I was thinking of getting a universal central locking kit but i want to make sure there is no issue with the drivers door lock before i buy and try to fit

there is no issue. as STAR has already said much better than i did, you SHOULD have a remote fob. that is what is missing from the car, and therefore without it, there is no way, as standard, to lock the drivers door unless its closed, and why would you ever need to lock an open door anyhow?

That is normal that the button cannot be pushed down with the door open.

That's a relief that nothing is wrong with the drivers lock. Thankyou
I bought the car with no fob which is a bit of a shame. Any ideas on a fix? Had anyone footed these universal central locking kits?

Yes no reason why you should not fit one.

I'll give it a go. Does anyone have any experience I'm fitting one?
I understand the wires are under the rear seats, the kits come with 4 wires to connect however I've been told there are only 3 on the w124 to connect to the kit
