central locking problems on w203

hi i dont now if anyone can offer me any advice on a problem im havin with my remote locking ,the key will only lock the doors when held close to the door handle,also my car radio has very poor reception,i have found a fuse blown in the boot but when replaced it blows instantly!

You have an amp in the rear for the long range locking and the radio, they go short circuit,, they are easy to replace

That will be fuse number 8, 7.5 amp in the rear sam then!

As Malc, the amp has gone down!

hi thanks do you happen to know what part number i am looking for and were the unit is positioned also if i fit this part would i have to get it reset to match the key signal

I had this done twice on my W240 C240 in 18 months. Mine was done by the stealer under a Merc service plan, so I can't help on the price. I believe the amp itself is in the roof lining close to the rear screen.

Does your radio make "popping" noises? Mine did before the amp went.

The reason the remote still works is because it is using the infrared sensor on the door, rather than radio control through the amp.
