Hi,
I’m trying to replace the motor for the Central Locking Vacuum Pump on my 2001 E320 W210.
Does anyone have any ides the Specs on the pump?
I need to know what RPM the Motor in these Rotary type pumps operate at.
Need to find a replacement.
Thanks,
Joe

BTW If I get it to work, I’ll post how I did it.

Hi Malcolm,
Yes, I have opened it up and the motor is burnt to a crisp.
I guess there is a leak and it just ran itself out.
It requires a "Back-pressure" to cut off.
Mercedes will not sell you the motor by itself so I need to find one.
The problem is that I don't want to use one that either will not spin fast enough to work or will spin too fast and shorten the life of the "Rotary pump".
I have heard that it can be done but those in the know will not part with that information.

Most of these things run at 1400 rpm why not use one from a tyre pump

Earlier versions had a time switch if the bellows failed

Hmmmm.
Thanks Malcolm.
The motors I had in mind spin at 3000RPM or 6000 RPM.
I am not sure a simple diaphragm type pump will work. I believe the rotary pump “reverses” to create pressure/vacuum.
If I can find a tyre pump that uses a rotary pump, it may work.
The older OEM diaphragm pumps have a complicated mechanical switching mechanism that does the reversing process when it reaches the required vacuum/pressure after the doors are locked/opened.
A tyre pump will not have that. Also, the valves in a tyre pump will probably be non reversible.

I have some old ones here, so I know how they work, how is the motor fixed to the pump on yours, or coupled

If the pump is running for more than 10 seconds, it is more than likely that there is a leak in the vacuum system and the pump motor will burn out.
If you find the fuse, it's a 25A fuse under the rear seat, remove it or else disconnect the Vacuum Unit under the rear seat.

In my case, the motor ran until the cooling fan in the motor melted and seized the whole thing up, blowing the fuse.
I had to dig out the melted fan to free the armature.
Once that was done I put it back together and it’s been working ever since.
I reasoned that since the motor only ran for a few seconds at a time, it would not miss the fan.

Sounds like it could be a door actuator.
There is no easy way to find a leak.
Disconnect the pump.
If the pump is working, you can remove the hoses one by one, and block the applicable hole on the pump unit, reconnect the pump and see if the pump cuts off.
You get the idea.
When you find the culprit, you can leave it out (block the hole) until a fix can be arranged. A short piece of tubing, pinched at the open end, will do the trick.
It could be anything from a loose or leaky hose to a faulty actuator

Do all the doors, boot and fuel filler flap lock at the same time? or does any one of them take a bit longer than the others to lock?
