A bit of a shameless plug, but I have a set of AMG EditionOne black matte centre caps for sale:

http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/i...ne-centre-caps-matte-black-gloss-grey.169108/

EditionOne is the newer raised type of caps, and some (myself included) like them better than standard 'flat' ones.

Just to clarify, mine are aftermarket (although might be from the same manufacturer, who does the OEM ones), and at £16.50 delivered are a fraction of the cost from Mercedes (about £80).

I got my lad to 'shop a set of these onto my alloys and they looked quite good, sadly after re-reading your post it dawned on me that yours are the raised type which, truth be told, I'm not that fond of sir, I prefer the flush fit ones.

So, I've decided to replace mine with like for like and go with the Blue Laurel Leaf type. Thanks for your suggestion.

If I stay with the Laurel leaves it'll match my bonnet emblem and maintain the set so to speak, however, the Three Pointed Star with the silver background just has an elegant look to it and will match the refurbed alloys.

I have just been to Robinsons in Norwich this afternoon with my Son-in-Law. I notice that the bonnet badges are now body coloured pretty much. I saw White. Black, Blue ETC. Assuming the bonnet badges are currently the same size and fitting as they have been for some time maybe you could now match the bonnet badge and wheel centre cap colours ? :)

Damn!! :( I saw this post just five minutes after I had ordered and paid for the set of Blue Laurel Leaf type, bugger, that would have been the perfect solution for a matched set too.

The only thing that troubles me would have been the double badge on the bonnet and grille which I'm informed is a bit of a faux pas.

Oh well, I know that what's been ordered looks good on the car and will match. :geek:

My crap wheel refurbishers lost my genuine ones in good condition, and handed me some pretty tatty ones.
I bought some off eBay.
Within a year they look manky like with limescale ...
I would go genuine MB in future.

Well, if the ones I bought from E-Bay are crap, at just under a tenner a set, I could replace them at every service and not miss it. :D:D:D

The old adage is you get what you pay for springs to mind.

And you are ABSOLUTELY 100% CORRECT sir!

The eBay ones were total CRAP!!! They were too small on the O.D. and rattled about even after padding the lugs. That didn't help either as, they popped off when I went over the first bump in the road. Two of the lugs broke on one despite the most gentle and ginger of handling when I attempted to fit it. I ended up taking the backing off of one of my O.E. ones and effecting a temporary repair which looks f'in hideous because the material on the ebay one is so thin I could bend/mark it with my finger nail.

What is it with these cars that everything has got to be 100% or it won't work/looks shite? Fuc* sake I work in the motor trade and can't save any money what chance have you guys got? Everything is damn near straight retail and top end stuff too.
Fuc* damn blast, fuc* damn blasted, jobbies, shite, basta*d, basta*d fuc*, AAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!! I hate this fuc*in' car!!!!!

Normal service has now been resumed, I apologise for my outburst, however I feel a lot better for getting that off my chest. I don't really hate my car, in fact I'd go so far as to say I love it, it's a quality vehicle and now that I've got it running and STOPPING properly too, I am so much happier, I will be totally delighted when I get it looking the way I want it too, and that will be soon I hope.

I think the best route is to follow Submariners advice and just buy O.E.

Have a good evening all. Well at least a better one than I've had.

I think I get the gist of that Jim, I don't buy ebay centre caps either, have done but not any more !!

Well after a day at work and having my mind on other things I came home with a clearer mind, and, clearly being a tight git, I didn't want to waste anymore money so, I decided to transfer all of the blue laurel faces onto the O.E. caps so that they would at least fit until my new set arrive.

I figured you've done it once Jimbo, in a bit of a rush to be fair, let's see how they turn out if done with even greater care.

So after taking the new faces off of the useless mounting caps :-

IMG_2826.JPG

and just so that you can see I didn't just fit new ones here are the remaining three old faces :-

IMG_2825.JPG

I'd have shown the fourth but it's in the bin, :D instead here are some pics of the fitted items, please excuse the dirty wheels I ran out of time, needless to say they will be getting washed a.s.a.p. anyway show and tell :-

IMG_2816.JPG IMG_2819.JPG IMG_2822.JPG IMG_2824.JPG

So, not perfect by any means but, a lot better looking than they were. They'll do until the new ones arrive and they are nice and tight, they're going nowhere, :D:D

The only long term benefit is that I'll have a spare set just incase.

I don't know how to say this, but the pictured tops are aftermarket, with protective plastic covers still on (and been on for a while by the look of it), that's why they look horrible.

Before I switched to EditionOne type, I used to change these black laurel type once or even twice a year. Only with the first set, I had one lug snapped, and learnt my lesson - set it square, don't tilt and steady push, no hesitation ;)

EditionOne been on the car for close to two years now, and still look great.

All aftermarket.

I don't know how to say this, the pictured tops may be aftermarket, however, I can categorically state that there are no protective plastic covers on them sir.

What you see is the state that they are in, hence my reason for removing them. I will however concede that it does look like the covers were still on, from the pictures, but it is not the case. The lacquer oxidation is advanced and not a pleasant thing to behold.

When I checked the lugs of the new caps against the original ones, the originals were found to be approximately two thirds thicker material, 3mm as opposed to 1mm. This is why I suspected that they were indeed O.E. units.

That's the only "camera" I have these days too ... considering I used to own Linhof, Sinar, Mamiya, Bronica, Fuji and Hasselblad ... well, you know :)

It's the only one I've had for quite some time, my last 35mm was a Leica, back in the 70/80's.

I had a Samsung digital for a few years but the technology has moved on so much that even it is considered pretty much rubbish, these days, and tbh it's well past its best. So, the phone will need to do.
