Got a 2002 E220 W211 and the centre console where the hazard lights button lives occasionally goes through a phase of flashing like a strobe light.

The ESP also cannot be switched off with its button on the same panel, and the button to retract the headrests also does not work.

any ideas where to start looking. Im not too bothered as I dont have much need to tun off the ESP or retract the headrests (if thats what it is supposed to do) although the strobe flashing is a little annoying

thanks in advance for any tips

How easy is it to remove the panel to have a look

It could be a fault with the upper control unit itself, or a front sam unit, it needs the fault codes red to be sure I think.

Does it move up on the button to get to the cd changer or storage hole?

I will try and look at the circuit, could it be a loose plug at the rear of the console, it is not a normal fault

That is what i am hoping.

Before getting screwdriver out, any tips for getting to the back of the panel?.

I dont want to miss a hidden tab somewhere and end up breaking one if i can avoid it

the door lock/unlock buttons also work fine.

thanks malcolm, looks pretty straightforward, I think its a job for this saturday and plenty of daylight.

those instructions will help remove strip, radio panel and ashtray, I am assuming it is then a case of using standard radio wedge keys to pop the radio out or else some easily visible screws

tnx again
