That’s like the Cream Tea Question...

As @V6Matty said:

Sealant must always first go onto clean paint or it has nothing to bond to.

Re the cream tea question......I've settled on:
If it is clotted cream (i.e. thick and butter like) it goes first otherwise jam first.....:)

As I expected. But what it does show is that there doesn't seem to be one standout product. So pretty much whichever I choose should be ok..
Paint prep is the important step - point taken.

I agree but would add that it should be from a reputable manufacturer and not a Wilco special....There are some that argue that certain cheap lines are made in the same facilities as more expensive brands and are therefore "just as good". This is incorrect.

Personally I seem to have a mix of Meg’s, G3 and Zymol on my shelf, all pretty easy to work with but very much depends on the weather at the time I’ve found

I was only joking about all 3 Rory. I have a tin of Collonite which I highly regard for a top coat for the ceramic, it lasts for longer than other polishes ive tried. I will invest in some of them new fangled TW waxes once the Collonite runs out:D

It’s only jam first if you’ve nothing else to put on it...

Wouldn't be first then if there is nothing to put on it after

Ok. Thread drift. Back to Ceramics. Now call me a tight fisted old guy, and many do, I believe in value for money so (and I'm waiting for the torrent of abuse).
I have invested in one of the ultra cheap ceramic offerings. £4.99 for 30ml - so I splashed out for 2

Now I've found a bunch of reviews by various detailer professionals but most of them unsurprisingly start of with bias against anything so cheap.

However sifting through this the general impression is that it is a ceramic coating but maybe either diluted in some way that gives a shorter active life.

So in the interest of curiosity I'll give them a go and report back over time.

1st step is wash & degrease, rinse and claybar, rinse & paint prep (swirl, scratch etc) dry then polish. Then apply 1 X coat of Mr Fix Ceramic.

It will be interesting to hear how the £4.99 ceramic lasts Robin. if you were only to get 3-6 months its still better and cheaper than some good polishes

......and pray your paint doesn't start peeling!!:) Seems to be a lot of effort for something that is possibly only going to last a couple of months.

The polish and clean is due anyway so no Biggie and is I am currently 'in search of my next career challenge' I've plenty of time available.
As in the info I've seen this stuff is weaker rather than stronger I doubt it will peel paint - but I could be wrong on that.
But hey! Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

But I am prepared for ' nothing changed!

My son had some guys do a "ceramic' on his then brand new (2019) E53 AMG. They used some cheapo product, it looked terrible (was poorly applied) and lasted about six months although, he was told it should last at least a year.

Big claims for longevity come with the territory. They're also uncheckable. If you leave your car tucked away in the garage, the shine will last indefinitely. If you venture out onto the road, it depends what the roads are like, surface, weather, traffic. And of course if you live by the sea...

I live within a stone's throw of the sea, and within the glide path of a significant number of seagulls, plus my parking spot is close to a large tree. So sap, sh1t, salt and sand to deal with.

So this should be a test of how cheap stacks up!!

I know where you are coming from, I am in exactly the same position. Things have however eased off a bit now as the young Gulls have started to leave the nests :eek:

But it is not only the Gulls that cause the grief, get a little bit of a blustery breeze and you have a fair proportion of the Beach on top of the car so any coating you might have on the car is ground off when you wash the thing.

I've solved washing sand off. I'm using Auto Glym Polar Blast. Does a really good job. No need to use sponges or cloths. I just need something slicker such as ceramic to ensure seagull sh1t doesn't stick as hard.

The Sea Gull poo seems to be of a different texture at the moment, whereas it always used to be either the white stuff which wasn't too damaging or the dark stuff that you needed to remove instantly. At the moment we are getting brown stuff which sticks like a bit of cake and needs a good soak before removing because it is very gritty. Obviously due to a change of diet for them during the pandemic, not so many chips :D

Bit of a "gull poo" connoisseur then!:)
