Just picked up a new C Class saloon and noticed that the digital speed display is set to km/h. Read the manual and am unclear as to whether this is an option. Can I change this km/h to m/ph?

The Uk car (W203) has km in small type in the bottom left of the display and temperature in the main display in larger typeface if it is selected.

Rest of the world is the other way around

You can get it changed by your dealer and then you have temperature all the time and the option of a large display of speed in km or miles. You have to select this display each time you start. At least you can see the speed in bright sunlight.

The car may then be technicaly illegal.

The change takes less than 5 mins and needs a friendy dealer.

This is illigal to do as Blobcat pointed out. An MB dealer will not do this mod.

I'm not sure that is illegal. I thought the requirement was for the car to have the capability to display the speed in kph. In converted cars this can be done by changing the units on the dashboard. The speedo works as normal and when kph is required either the main display or status display show the speed in kph.

I think that you will find that cars must be able to display both Miles and KM
if the digital read out was converted to miles, then no km on the car.

Once converted the car still has the capability to display in KPH, in fact better than before as the numbers are larger in the main dash display.

That could well be the case, but MB will not do it, it has been asked many times.
