Apologies if this is in the wrong category.. I've got up this morning to a flat tyre. I cannot get the tyre off. There seems to be an alum key type of lock as well as the two bolts. I guess I should have a key to this, but I bought the car second had and there is no key (or handbook) so I'm not sure how to get the wheel off. Can anyone offer some advice quite urgently? It's an ML270.

Sounds like the locking wheelnut key is what your looking for ............. check in the rear of the vehicle, any storage area, nook and cranny ............... it may well be with the jack and wheelbrace.

Only thoughts !!

Are you in the AA or similar, give them a ring they may be able to help. Your local tyre depot may also keep spare locking keys.

I am in the AA. At a last resort I will have to ring them. Cant find the key in all the nooks and crannys! Living in the middle of nowhere is fantastic until something like this happens and the nearest garage is 10 miles away!

The part that you are looking for is like a ½" socket that fits onto the end of the wheel brace. there are about 70 different pattens and MB keep them all, the problem is finding what one.

One solution would be to buy one of the aerosol cans that give a seal and blow the tyre up so that you could drive to your nearest MB dealer

Good idea, I didn't realise until I needed 2 new tyres on the Caravelle that I didn't have the locking wheel nut adaptor. I drove to the nearest dealer, they removed the 2 locking nuts for me with their right adaptor from their kit and then ordered me a new adaptor for next day delivery (£12.01). I then drove back to the tyre dealer and had my new tyres fitted.

I've blown the tyre up and driven to the nearest MB garage. They do not have the nut to get the tyre off in stock and it will take 2 weeks to order, so I need to get the part before I can do anything! Never has a tyre taken so long to change!

They might not have one in stock however they should have one in the workshop that they can just remove the offending bolt with. Never has one of my wheels been removed by Mercedes using my wheel nut adaptor they use their own kit. Whilst your wheel will only be secured by 4 bolts you could live with that or buy one normal wheel bolt in the mean time. If they are not willing to help then they don't sound up to much IMO
