Hi there
After several hours of searching, I think it would be better idea to start my own tread and I need to take action as soon as possible...

I would like to get my Tyre change for my C180 Kom (2003),
My current spec is
Continental Sport Contact 2 (3 yrs 4 mnths)
Front 225/45 R17 91W (4mm left)
Rear 245/40 R17 91W (5mm left)
There are slight crack on around the outer side of tyre. Just like skin without lotion...
I also got a nail in one of mine Front on the right side. It must be replaced.

Now, IMO i dont like the noise of these tyre.. they are abit loud when i go up to 60 mph on tarmac and really really loud on concrete.

1. I would like to know if there are other alternative tyre which prerform like to the conti sport2, have around same life time but make a lower noise.
I do around 8000 miles/ yr.

2.Is is ok just change the front tyres to new brand and keep the rear as Conti sport 2?

The dealer quote me 118 pounds for 1 front tyre which inc balance and labour.

please recommned me the type and maybe the place to change them
I am in Nottingham area around the University.

hi conman,
try www.mytyres.co.uk - all tyres have feedback from users and also don't pressure wash your tyres as that is the cause of the side wall breaking up.
cheers

Hi there, thanks for the reply

I am now narrow the search to the following choices with the same size and profile as my current one.
(Price does not inc fitting)

Dunlop Sport Maxx
Front 225/45 R17 ZR £81.10, Rear £97.80

Continetal Sport Contact 3
Front 225/45 R17 91W, £94.60, Rear £119.90

Bridge Stone Potenza RE 050
Front 225/45 R17 91Y, £87.70, Rear £119.90

According to tyrestest.com,

The dunlop is the cheapest here but also the loudest.
The Contin Sp Con3 suppose to be a better choise with claim to produce noise than the Sp con2 (currently on the car).
The potenza suppose is giving slightly better performance over the Conti Sport Con3. Their price are around the same which are abit high. None of them have much better score on noise test....

Can anyone recommend me and comment on my choices... I still can not find the performace tyres with the quiet....

Do not forget that it takes energy to make noise, so do head in the right direction as when you started.

I cant see until the morning but I have Dunlop 9000 something. they are very quite, will look in the morning

The general rule is the wider grooves in the tread (more air space), the greater the noise. Hence, chunky looking tyres tend to be noisier. However, the opposite is true for wet grip so it's a compromise.

I have Nankang Ultra sport 11 on my V70R as Jberks says the pattern often indicates how quiet they are.

I am very pleased with them, comfortable and quiet and good in the rain, very cheap for a high speed tire.

It have been abit difficult to make the best choice here.....

I wonder if it is ok, safe ... etc... for my car to Have

Fronts with New Brand, such as Dunlop 9000

Rear with the current Brand Conti SP contac2

I dont think it is ok to have fronts with 2 different brand?
please comment??

Different types on the same axle is not good, front to back it does not matter.

I had the 9000 and they were fine.

I just pop in mr Tyre, my local Nottingham Garrage, with quiet option they advice me to go for ...

Avon ZZ3 225/45 ZR 17 91Y for 96.56 if i want to change both front...

On mytyre.co.uk... they sale at 66.10...

after looking at review on tyretest.com, the noise test seems at have same value as my Conti Sp Contact2....

Any thought? i have ring them again for the price of the dunlop 9000 on monday.

BridgeStone RE 050 A or no A.. i dont know...
it got 225/45 and 245/40 size... same as old one,,,
According to tyre test... the RE050 are slightly better than Conti SP2 in terms of performace and noise...

After been talking to my local garge... bigcity tyre..in nottingham.... I go for

Pirelli P Zero Rosso Aimetrico 225/45 R17 91W for the front... with £ 114x2 and i can have it for nextday.

After hours of readind reviews on tyretest.com they seems to be better than Conti SP contact2...

Does cost abit than i expect but close to mytyre (£96 + 10(fitting) each)which have to wait 7 days..

I also ring up Merc Mobile today and have them arrange someone to change my spare tyre so i can drive to the shop...

Not too bad... i will post the comment later on.. hope it will a good one... PLEASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS:confused:

My wifes C180 runs well on Goodyear NCT, VERY GOOD IN WET, and reasonably quiet.
My old C180 was noticeably quieter when running on Pirelli P6000, AND WERE BETTER IN THE WET AND DRY than than the original Contis.as well as being a lot cheaper. The last set I fitted (203, 000 miles) just before I sold it, were Lassa (made by Bridgestone) and were just as good as the Pirelli and even cheaper again.

After have running on P Zero Rosso for few days... I feel that i can the grip is lighter and easier to turn where the Conti Sp Contact 2 is tighter.......

The noise... i can not notice any different... (sigh.... after serval hrs of research) Still i do not find what i want...

still more expensive choice will be the Micheline Exalto PE2...

Another choice is the Jap tyre Toyo T1R which is very popular and cheaper (20 quids)

Well... not entirly happy now... but have to live with it... pay 228 quide for the front...
