hello everyone
my mechanic told me that i'd need to change the ignition leads in my '90 W124 200E. i found a srapper with some good ones and promptly whipped them. i went to work and when i was on lunch i fitted them. the car wouldn't start.
i thought something was up so i put back on the original spurious "silicone" leads. car still won't start. i rang my mechanic and he said that i'd simply put them back in the wrong order, which i had been very careful about and thought i hadn't. i then started putting them on in every format i thought of. still nothing. i'm in a little trouble cos i need the car to get home from work tonight............
any theories??

...overtime?
Sorry, couldnt resist!

What about the low tension circuit, could you have disturbed that when you took the leads off?

is it coughing? Trying to start?

If you are getting nothing, then check the lead from the center of the distributor cap to the coil?

Take the lead from the coil to the dizzy cap, hold it very close to the cylinder head, turn the ignition (get a mate to do it), and see if theres a spark.

flooded

ok, so we wired it as per the information on the lead cover

when you wire it this way, nothing fires

when you wire it 'wrong' it runs on two cylinders

originally they were changed sequentially so they should be in the right order

could it be flooded???

Are you sure that you haven’t got No1 and No4 the wrong way round on the distributor cap take the cap of and check for cracks on the cap the lead could also be one hole out check the position of the rotor arm when engine is at No1 TDC and work from there

If the firing order is 1342 you should find the timing marks and get it at TDC on no1 cylinder with the rotor pointing at No1 plug lead. Thats one!

Next in order of rotation will be rotor pointing at No3 then No4 then No2!

W124 200T ignition problems

Hi
I have a similar car and similar probs
I have a 1995 200T estate manual
I have had major probs recently and now the car will hardly run
It started just hunting when idling but then got worse and lacked power
Now the car will only start when the accelerator is depressed and kept revving otherwise it will stall
I have been told by the garage the leads and plugs are good and they tried a new coil and this hasn't worked either
They tell me now they want to try a part that costs a fortune but offer no guarantees
Any ideas please?
Thanks
Jonathan

Hard starts and stalling and erratic ABS light = dodgy OVP relay. Try that first.

As Stevie A Sounds like the OVP is faulty or fuse gone (on top) You could measure the voltage going in on pin 30 and the outputs on pins 87 should be 12volt.

It was running fine, now it isn't and you've changed the leads. Its going to be a lead order, especially as mucking around with it has got it running on 2 cyls. I did this once myself and felt like a right prat!
Start with the basics so you're certain you have the right order, then get it checked.
