From experience (as long as its 95 octane) my car runs fine, but fuel economy takes a noticeable hit with E10 - certainly a lot more than the figures suggested by the government website - more like 10-15%.

Take this with the fact that more agricultural land is required to grow stuff just for us to burn, which lets face it is unlikely to come from arable land in developed countries and there's a real possibility of deforestation increasing to meet demand. Even the Canadians turned to illegal logging to provide wood chips for power stations.
I think that its the latest Emperor's new clothes.

We use a lot of E10 every time we go to France.
I've noticed no discernible difference between E10 and normal UK fuel when it come to economy.
The E240 does 28-30 on either. As each trip starts with a full UK tank and we fill at Rouen on the way down, then again at our local before we come back (and usually a full tank in between), then refill at Rouen on the way back we maintain the same economy as we would get in the UK. Bear in mind the car in always fully laden outbound and 2/3 laden inbound. Typically we do1600 miles each trip, 1300 of which is getting there and back.

Nah. The greenstuff they’re getting the ethanol from is coming from a variety of sources, not limited to:

marginal arable land
marginal non-arable land
hydroponics
And my personal favourite, algae.

the latter two are going to see massive development before this decade is out. Apparently there’s an algal strain for almost anything. Really interesting.

His E240 is a 210 so it’s well over 20 years old, and his R129 is mid-90s so getting there, although I can’t imagine noticing a change in fuel efficiency on the SL500!

What the hell is "E"?!

Although if Super Unleaded avoids it, that's OK, it's what I've been using for at least the last 17-18 years anyway!

I gather it is Ethanol. If so I lived in Rhodesia in the 60's and 70's and Zimbabwe up to '99 and it was in our fuel all that time - and out cars were generally OLD! And at much higher levels.... The only thing we had to do was change the plastic type in-line Filters because normal ones would melt...lol. It also melted certain plastic containers.
But one good thing, it stopped thieves syphoning petrol because if they inadvertently swallowed some, they usually died. C'est la vie....

See here. https://www.greenfuel.co.zw/about-ethanol/

Two diesel cars no problems there, & a 2015 FJR1300 no reported issues.
Speaking to German friends they are not reporting any issues, except a possible issue with some plastic fuel tanks.
I will run the bike on E10 but fill with Super Unlead when I park the bike up for the winter.

I'm glad that you don't notice a difference, but from my own experience of European road trips say to Austria, Hungary, Slovenia or Poland and I avoid it if at all possible.

Just found out today that regular unleaded is changing to E10 and is not compatible with many older vehicles.
I think it's due to change in September.

It seems fuel systems that are not compatible can be badly damaged.
Cars from 2011 should all be ok but check if your car is older.
https://www.gov.uk/check-vehicle-e10-petrol

If your car is not safe from damage caused by the ethanol in E10, you have to use super unleaded which should still be safe. As far as I know that's not changing.... yet!
Super unleaded without ethanol is only guaranteed to be available for another 5 years. It may be longer but not too likely the way things are going.

Some of this info may be incorrect, please advise if I got anything wrong as I've only just heard about it.
It may be common knowledge and I'm the last to hear about it

I’ve moved your post into this thread for you.
Thanks, I did a search here for E10 but it kept saying it failed, or something like that.
I'll have a read of all the comments, comments. The first post was April 21st. cant believe I've only just heard about it.
My car seems to be ok to use E10 but I'll probably change to the super unleaded and take the price hike to be safe.

I've been using E5 and E10 for the last 5 years on my 2004 C180 and have had no problems and see no discernible difference in performance nor consumption.

“E10” is too short a string for our search facility :(

I knew we’d had a couple of other threads on this, and remembered where to find it

This might have been mentioned before, E10 fuel at the pumps? Is this just getting the pumps ready for the 1st September or is E10 now available. Just filled the 55 and the Missus asked me what fuel to use, I said E5, but just wondering if E10 is suitable for the 2002 55 engine? E5 was 9 pence dearer the E10. :(
The fuel companies are going to get richer and us poorer........oh silly me, the government want us to drive electric cars

Anything with a catalytic converter that is not a CGI is fine.

As long as it's not a diesel. Diesels don't like it at all.
