With the planned expansion of the ULEZ area next year to include all London boroughs , I have been looking at replacing Missy. I've found a car that I like which has a BlueTEC engine. I don't know anything about AdBlue, only what I've read on here. Hopefully you guys will be able to help. Thanks

I would suggest you're better steering clear of the over complicated euro 6 CDI's and go for a petrol instead.
Khan might decide to ban diesels or go Euro 7 soon enough anyway.

I used to get adblue warnings every other week which really made me wish I had bought an S65 that i resisted to go and see. For 2,000 miles now, using the anti crystallisation fluid, the car has been flawless.

As above, the ball ache of when adblue plays up or goes wrong is just not worth the hassle and best avoided. Even for petrol engines, I’d be looking at the oldest and most simplest of reliably built engines, not something that’s trying to be clever.

I would also not hesitate to get a Lexus hybrid old or new.

I used the anti crystalline juice in mine and I never had a problem in 2.5 years with mostly town driving and at least once a week blast to clear the "tubes" out.
But I felt it was unnecessarily complicated and was just waiting for something to clog or break so, very reluctantly, decided to sell up. The price differential at the pumps finally made up my mind.

Well for what it's worth l simply wouldn't touch a euro 6 diesel with a barge pole. Unnecessary complication which has an effect on reliability and which seems to affect most if not all makes. I've ordered a new Jaguar XE (sorry) and before l did this l was researching petrol or diesel. The petrol version is much more reliable than the diesel and given the fact l don't do a massive mileage, it was no contest and l didn't even test drive a diesel. Glad l ordered the petrol one, even more so now there's quite an appreciable difference in price at the pumps.

I’m with the consensus above wouldn’t touch an EU6 diesel far too complicated nowadays I’m still running my EU5 diesel but will be replacing it with a petrol when the time comes

Funnily enough our main car is also 2008, but it's an early S204 C220Cdi, LEZ compliant but not ULEZ! As said many times above Sarah, I'd avoid diesel as EU6 ones are extra complicated, newish and thus pricey, the additional MPG will be markedly offset by the extra cost of diesel compared to petrol - close on 20p/litre (88p/gallon) ATM!

My experience:

1. C Class - ad blue sensor went when car was about 20 months old. £600 to fix and Mercedes claimed to have no knowledge of sensors going wrong (internet said differently)
2. E Class - don't know what is wrong, so far spent about £800 and still needing to investigate further, car claimed ad blue pump did not work but that has been changed and still the same answer. Car is now four years old and just out of the Merc warranty...

Pretty peeved with Mercedes and Ad Blue TBH right now.

I wouldn’t run an EU6 Mercedes diesel out of extended warranty. My son’s 2016 W213 220d EU6 is still under extended warranty and would you believe no faults to date at 65k miles…

Just curious how do so many mini cab drivers and Uber drivers with W212/W213 get on with theirs, as most in London are driving within London.

I got several bottles of 3rg from eBay thinking that should last me around 400,000 miles in theory.

My local A1 motorist store has anti crystallisation additive by Forte in stock at about £10 a bottle.

Probably the same as everyone else, either painful times at a garage, anti crystallisation additive or, remapped out

There is a building backlash against the extension so might be worth hanging on ? That’s my plan ;) , but I’m usually wrong .
