Hi just bought a E220 recently and it jumps into park under 5mph after looking around on here found out it’s my EIS module-the thing your key goes into- (correct me if I’m wrong) but before I go and buy just wanted to ask is it possible to reprogram my key to it if I buy just the module without the key ?

get youreself to a reputable merc indy who knows the cars and brand for a proper diags.

EIS faults are non starting, key not turning. Would seem odd jumping into park at less that 5mph and being the EIS. sounds more gbox related.

Electronic ignition switch is what you refer to. I think if you diagnosed that as the problem via here then there should be some indication in those threads. I am not too versed in the EIS. expect someone to pop along soon.

Keep us posted how you go.

The EIS is a theft relevant part so take proof of ownership and id when you go to buy a new one. It will need coding to your car by someone with online Xentry. A good independent or your local Mercedes dealer can sort it for you.

W212 (and W204) jumping to park is known problem. EIS PCB fault, and as said above, new EIS can be coded to your car, 2nd hand EIS is not going directly, they are married to TCU and ECU.

Went to my local trusted second hand Mercedes breaker and he said if I get an EIS module with the same part number it won’t need recoding. Is he right ?

suck it and see I say. but my feeling says no as its theft prevention related.

part number i guess is probably the same across the board. coding for the car is not. surely key code and eis must be in sync.

unless you are on good terms with your local MB garage they may be reluctant to code a used part.

No, he is wrong.

The EIS stores the vin number and on many cars contains the CGW also which has the cars options/configuration stored in it.

Do the job properly and go to a good independent or your local Mercedes dealer.
