I bought new (used) alloys for my 2001 S320 petrol last summer. The wheels came with used tyres and I am now ready to replace two of the tyres.
The wheels are 8.5Jx17 H2 ET35, part number A2304012402. The current tyres are 255 45 17. They look and feel great, however if I go over a bad bump they can touch at the back, the contact is between the outer edge of the tyre and the inner lip of the arch. This is a very minor problem and has got less as the tyres have worn, however I am worried that with new tyres it could be more of a problem.
I am stuck getting my head around whether I can go to a narrower tyre. If I go down by 10mm to 245 my logic is that I move the tyre 5mm from the inner wing - problem solved, but is it that simple?
Any suggestions would be gratefully accepted.
Mark.
