good shout Malcolm,

but just checked on the good old WIS and its right on the break point !!!

any ways....

removal of the trunk lid lining is required to be sure of not breaking any of the fragile plastic housing. A few little push in type clips I think??- (inner pin removal and then outer)

Its basically a sandwich design outer lens removal from outside and the opening the trunk lid to detach the inner section.

You may even find its all been stuck together with silicon sealant - (good point for water ingree into the boot)

Why is it being replaced - not working ?? if so be carefull beacuse the wiring to it enters at the right trunk lid hinge area and wires maybe fracture at this point. I think also that if fractured it may even pop a fuse in the front fuse box if its been shorted

Good luck !!

I've done this and it's easy. As previously said, remove the trunk lining sufficient to get to the rear of the unit. Carefully prise out the lens from the outside with a screwdriver blade taking care not to damage the paintwork. The retaining lugs of the lens can be seen and that's where you lift the lens. You'll probably crack it but it's available at around £20! Unscrew the Philips screws and the whole unit will drop out and can easily be lifted out from the inside of the lid.

Are you really sure you want to remove this? The main reason for this not illuminating is a break in the supply circuit on the rhs trunk hinge.

The later ones have a row of led's so it's either replace the whole unit or solder a new led onto the pcb. As previously stated, the usual reason for these lamps not working is a broken wire in the convoluted rubber tube on the rhs hinge. If you cut the wires to repair, remember to maintain the polarity or the leds won't light.

And easy to test by powering up on their own
