The brake pads on my 2006 SL350 are getting low, I have changed pads on other cars 'no problem'. I am just wondering if attempting this myself will put up fault lights? and that would be a 'cap-in-hand' trip to the dealer, Any advice would be most welcome.

The sl has sbc brakes so wouldnt attempt unless you are confident, proper way is connected to star to deactivate brakes.

Just disconnect the rear battery, push the pedal a few times, and its safe to work on, just like a normal car.

The front pads are squealing at very low speed on my SL55 AMG so my local garage are going to whip them out and take a look even though they've been "deglazed" by a MB dealer (supposedly) recently.

lf the rear battery is disconnected will it reset anything or cancel/lose any settings, etc?

Thanks.....

Also, if the battery isn't disconnected then does it mean the pads can't be removed?

You cannot remove the pads front or rear without STAR, or by removing the battery.

The squealing is nothing to do with any glaze on the disc, it is to do with resonance set up by friction. the cure is to grease the rear of the pads correctly

Thanks Malcolm. l suspect the MB dealer didn't grease them correctly which is why they're still squealing.

So, if the battery is disconnected will l lose any settings or memories or will everything be present & correct when reconnected?

The garage l use are excellent but they don't have STAR as they're not a MB specialist.

You only have the two front windows to memorize, and the ESP but you can do that as you drive along, just hold each window switch in the up mode for 10 sec, and the ESP will reset as you drive
