:?:Changing the Fuel filter… W124 E300D 24V

Rather than bu&&ering the car up – I thought I would post yet another question!

I have a new filter, however there is very little room around the base of the cartridge filter to get a grip and twist it off. Now – I note there is a bolt ontop of the filter housing – is it a case of undoing this on top and then the filter drops off the bottom?

Thanks for your answers to date!

Thats basically it Max, just undo the bolt and withdraw, and the filter housing will slide out to the side.

I always fill the filter with clean fuel before refitting.

Blooming marvellous Juddian!

This is my first Merc – I have to say that to date it’s DIY heaven – it’s all been set out rather well under the bonnet!

Thanks,

Max

Actually after owning and repairing a fully loaded Fiat Regatta 2.1TD, any job on any car is a breeze.

All things considered, routine maintenance on these cars is fairly straightforward, as Parrot said, getting the glowplugs out without them snapping can be awkward but there are plenty of threads on here to help you if you need it (advise reading first before you try).:)

I'd replace the O-rings on the shutoff valve when you remove it and also replace the fuel pre-filter - they're only pennies
