Vito Traveliner 2006 111cdi 2.1
Hi all. I have an October 2006 (56 plate) Vito Traveliner 111cdi with 6 very uncomfortable individual seats on long metal tracks in the back (see attached photo). I am thinking about changing 3 of them to something more comfortable for long journeys. Are seats compatible across the Vito generations/models? Also any advice on changing seats would be greatly appreciated.

Are they an original Mercedes fitment like that? I've only seen arrangements with 3 or 4 floor rails (not 6) and all seats facing forwards. The seats themselves don't look like any other Traveliner seats I've seen.

2014 639 Viano- 651, 5sp Auto. 2009 S211- 646, 5sp Auto.
As above I would question if theseare oem rails, and seats.
It may be that Vito / Viano seats will fit but you would eed to try first.
Then there is insurance questions if these aren't on the VIN , and certified.

Where are you based, it may be that some one can offer you the opportunity to see if original seats will fit.

Vito and Viano seats are interchangeable into original seat rails, and even the not rail clip in floor anchor arrangement.
The Viano are softer leather and more comfortable.
All rear seats tend to be for a wider occupant and so slim persons can move around some, I'm intending to try some filler cushions for the benefit of my rare passengers.

I don't know tbh. Any idea how to tell? The material pattern matches the front seats and I've noticed the same pattern on other Vito seats online. However the legs do look a little ropey and I've not seen that type online at all.

Thanks, I'm in Swansea (South Wales). When I get home I'll take a closer look at the rails/seats and maybe post a few pics up.

Added a few pics of the chairs/legs/tracks up close. Looks like it's been modified with Unwin Safety Systems gear - they provided vehicle stuff for wheelchairs but got consumed by BraunAbility.

6 rails, definitey not MB.
They aren't designed to take Vi seats.

My main concern would be with how those rails are attached, since the whole setup appears to be aftermarket. If they're merely screwed into the floor or, bolted through with just nuts and washers they would almost certainly not conform with satisfactory safety requirements. (I've seen the 10 tonne 'pull test' done on a VW T5 for aftermarket rear seats produced by my friend's engineering business and, the underfloor frame used to bolt them to to get approval.)

That's just one issue. Another issue would be insurance cover for them being used by passengers whilst driving. I'd need to satisfy myself with all sorts of paperwork showing conformity.

All that aside and back to your original question, they obviously wouldn't be compatible with other Vito/Viano seats.

I knew a person who just bolted some bus seats into the back of his Transit connect...

I've a 2012 9 seater mid-length traveliner - the mid-bank had 4 x floor channels (!!!! from the rear) with a 2+1 seat - the rear-bank had a triple bench on only 3 channels (!-!! from the rear). I needed the rear-bank to be 2+1 too and bought another 2+1, so needed that 4th floor channel. Using the existing mid-bank and rear-bank channels I positioned a new Merc channel as a template (less 10mm all round) Cutting away the rubber floor to drop in the new channel, I expected to use 3 x Merc original star-bolts locktited and torqued down into new M10 Rivnuts, through 12mm o.d. short M10-threaded stainless sleeves then 3 x more original star-bolts Loctited and torqued up through the chassis though 30mm o.d. 2mm stainless washers. I bought everything I thought I needed! I nervously drilled three 3mm pilot holes from above, only to find 3 welded nuts there, each about 25mm deep. Carefully drilling the floor to clear three new M10 star-bolts torqued-down with locktite, and it was "job Done!" - Factory welded mounting nuts, factory star-bolts, no cutting, no welding. It's still a 9-seater when needed, and I can pop out the "+1 seats" for longer loads, tool boxes, wheelchairs etc, and still carry 7 of us. Odd that the 3 x nuts were already welded in place, but there were no holes in the floor above them and no marks above to show that they were there.

The rearmost replacement 2+1 seats that I have fitted to my 639 VITO Traveliner were for a type 447 - still HD matching black vinyl - they are almost the same as the 639 seats, except the two RHS seats are both ISOFIX whereas the 639 type have a single central ISOFIX only. Plus the 447 type has additional HD child harness grips behind them, and the headrest prongs are more robust on the 447. As long as the seats use the same floor fixings, they seem to be interchangeable.
