No I didn't look to convert the SL to LPG as it has nowhere to fit a sensibly sized tank. The conversion price and bigger issue of no gas pumps at a filling station for probably 30 miles makes it an unrealistic financial option for most including me LK when I only do less than 10,000 miles a year. Did you convert the SL500 to gas or get a Quote? As regard sod the planet I do what I can when I can to save it as it will be home to my Children as well.
My previous vehicle (3.4 V6 Toyota Land Cruiser Colorado) was LPG converted and even had a reduced size petrol tank to fit a larger tank. It cost 15% less to run than the equivalent diesels and had better performance (and sounded lovely).
I've had LPG land Rovers and had a CNG powered car in NZ too. CNG is even less polluting than LPG.
I was also 90% of the way through self converting a Land Rover FC101 when I sold it. That had two 80 litre LPG tanks inside which would have given it a far bigger range on LPG than the 20 gallon petrol tank and could be used for cooking gas when camping.
If there was a feasible way to fit LPG to the SL I'd seriously consider it (if it were a daily runner), especially the newest liquid injection systems that give more power than petrol (cooling effect of gas vaporisation) and better economy as well.
