Hi, I've fitted a aux socket in the boot which successfully charges the aux battery in the boot using a smart charger. However I don't think this charges the front battery? Will I do any damage by directly connecting my charger to the front cranking battery please. The vehicle is a 2004 R230 500SL. Thankyou J C.

I have never charged the front battery, there is no drain on it, so it shouldn't need charging. I do wonder if charging the rear battery charges the front one anyway. Is yours not turning the engine over ?

Hi Mark. Yes starts OK but present circumstances have dictated that the vehicle has been sorn for 6 months + and only driven in and out of the workshop. It is only a little slow turning over, and since it's now sold was considering giving the front battery a quick charge.

As long as you don't use any voltages greater than 14.8v everything should be fine,

Thanks Tony. I was going to use my CTEK charger on normal setting.

I have CETEK connectors connected to both batteries, to facilitate easy connection of the charger - cost on Amazon £2.25 each.

I use the connectors to connect a BM2 Battery Monitor when the charger isn't connected, and get alerts to my 'phone of battery state when in BT range.

I connect mine directly using the above lead.

I have just connected my charger as the car just told me to start the engine when I opened the door today. I also got an email from Mercedes telling me to go for a 30-60 minute drive or put the car on a charger.
The trusty Ctek has been on for an hour now and is still on the first stage.
No journey for 10 days and I have been playing with the music features for half an hour or so.
