Afternoon everyone...

Yesterday when leaving the office as soon as I started my C320 (57 Plate) the check engine light stayed on - its currently amber (I think it turns to red for more serious issues).

There are no messages in the menu and the car starts, drives and stops fine. I'm trying to keep it under 2000 rpm as I still need to drive it.

Any common things that I could check easily before having to pay £80 for a diagnosis...

I did some searching and a possible cause could be the filler cap not fastened securely, I did fill up that morning so will check it when I get back. Anything else that I could check over without having to take too many things apart ?

Thanks !

I think those in the know will advise get it on STAR diagnostics - an independent would be much cheaper than the £80 you are quoting.

Anything else is pure guesswork.

Thanks Mark, yes I agree, I was hoping to do some basic checks just to cover any obvious areas.

Does anybody know of a good indy around North London or East London ?

If you are within reasonable reach of Harrow, Wayne Gates is a specialist there.

Could be a DPF clogging?

inlet port shut off motor failure, boost pressure leak etc

Personally speaking, I don't think it is very useful to make wild guesses about the cause of the problem until the fault codes are known. The only
sensible reply to the OP is to recommend that the codes are read.

Off now to put on my flame-proof jacket...

Just an update...

Not that it will be of any use as the check engine light went off 2 days later. Just for piece of mind I had it hooked up to STAR by a local indy - and no fault code found !
The light has not come back and still seems to drive fine.

Thanks
