Check engine!!!

Hi all, ive read all over the shop about the "maf sensor". and how the check engine light can come on to warn you.

well guess what?? have you guessed yet.......yep!!
my check engine light is on!!!

I'm 400miles from my next service (A service).
Would the light come on to warn me of the service?

Also the morning it came on the yellow light on the left of the consol for the breaks came on after going through a puddle. now i figured that was probably just a short from the water?
After turning the ignition off and back on again the break light went out so i carried on, for about 5 miles then the check engine light came on. so i pulled over turned off and back on and it dosen't go away!!!! ah!

Can i only get a diagnostic at merc?
can an indi do it?
any one in or around Swindon, wilts recomend a disent indi?
Fish brothers are crap and charge a fortune.(unless you can prove otherwise)

also ..Sorry to go on... im not happy about my arches... not my calfs!! my rear arches, on the inside of the lip im getting bubble rust coming through.

yes any decent indie can do a diag, and first step with rust is to bob it down to your dealer and see if MB will pay.

Thats all well, but i always seem to come off worse at garages and dealer ships.
how do i know if my car quallifys to come under garantee?
although its got a full servive history it has done some mileage!!

was the body work garantee sold with all mercs or was it an extra?

It is all listed out in your service book, pls have a read of it. If you have MB service history and you have had the car > 6 months you should have no problems at all with the corrosion warranty.
