His site is worth a sneak peek mind you.... he has hundreds of dream cars and dream number plates, quite a collection...
He also sent me a little PM giving some advice where to find the Double Sided Velcro @ B&Q - which I have.... so I can't shoot the old boy down in flames - maybe just a businessman trying to make a few quid.

Watch the double sided velcro, not sure how sticky it is. I used double sided tape to stick the number plate back on my wife's car until I could drive to Halfords (2 miles away) to get the proper thing. I got there but the number plate didn't. Had to go home, get my car, get all the necessary ID and go back to Halfords for a new plate :( :(

I just tried to drill a couple of holes in a new set of plates, the new private plates I purchased, and I have lacerated my thumb big time.

The drill bit got stuck in the acrylic plate and snapped a piece out of it and then somehow I managed to take 3 big chunks out of the side of my thumb in the process !

I think I should have used a pilot hole first and gradually made the holes bigger with slightly bigger drill bits each time - lesson learn't.

I need to do the whole process again, with a new set of plates as I've totally ruined this set, any advice on acrylic drilling welcomed ???

Stick Selotape over the proposed hole, use a pilot drill then the final size - the Selotape melts and acts as a lubricant.

I still like the free holders from dealers though not all give them out though they get them free from MB.

It gives the plate a nice outline and stops moisture getting in

You can purchase these, I think Halfrauds do them and I know my local Auto Spares store do them - they look the biz

I dream of having REA 41 or REA 341 but I fear I would need to re mortgage the house and the Mem Sahib would not agree to that:(

Use at least four strips per plate and it should be fine - my rear plate (on the car that is!) has been affixed for two years using Velcro.

Silly question (perhaps) - What are "Free Holders" ?

A metal (stainless or chromed steel) or plastic surround that your number plate 'sits' in or fixed into rather than the plate being fixed to the cars panel. The holder is fixed to the rear panel and the plate uses either double sided tape - industrial strength or Velcro so no screw heads, with or without plastic covers, can be seen.

They're the black number plate surround/holders that dealers fit.

None at the monent, but there's an OM642 in the Jeep Grand Cherokee!
After many years constantly having to spell out my Polish/Ukrainian surname - Szwec - I just couldn't resist ringing DVLA up on 1st August 1998 to see if S2WEC was still available. It was, so I bought it

It was on retention for about six years before I could afford a car new enough to stick it on.

Thanks, Dad!

I feel sure that I read somewhere that double sided tape/velcro was no longer legal due to number plate theft, I may be wrong on this!

My first name is Ian and my surname begins with a W, I always thought that a number plate with 1 ANW would be cool.... (IAN W) ... Would you believe it, I was coming home from work from Dorchester to Weymouth and I saw a yellow Ferrari with that plate!

Dorchester of all places!!!

J5 is on a Porsche Cayenne at the moment. The pic looks fake ;)

Certainly not fake.
J 5 is owned by Britain's number one cherished numbers dealer. He is the chap that runs www.pl4tes.co.uk
A very well connected guy apparently. Not someone to mess with:D.
The Porsche Cayenne with J 5 is registered in Jersey and is not the same one. Very confusing to have two numbers looking the same though.
When I was last in Jersey, I saw a Porsche with J 911 and a woman driving J 111, doctored to look like JILL.
