by the way. if ever drilling number plates, always drill from the back of the plate. firstly it drills easier, no need to pilot hole.
secondly it doesnt push the backing off the plate which then absorbes moisture and looks totally cack!

drilling slowly with a battery screwdriver drill has always worked best supporting the front face with a block of wood or mdf so the drill doesnt blow out the surface when right through. dont use your fingers to drill into as this hurts.

I would LOVE to send you a photograph of my plates - but for some strange reason, they go 'blank' when I take a flash photograph with my digi-cam.

Can't understand it.!

so that spray does work then?
what happens at night when car headlights shine on them?

No - not sprayed at all. the plates look perfectly normal.

Headlamps at night have no effect - just when a flash photograph is taken. Of course, this is only a benefit to me when someone wants to take a photograph of my rear end, when I am parked on private property ;)

hmmm. i would like some of those plates. yellow machines keep popping up and taking photos of my rear. you can pm me if theres a secret supplier?

Not a secret supplier at all.

My understanding, is that this link may be of some use:

http://www.camerashyplates.co.uk/

Not that I would EVER condone such underhand tactics by all of us law-abiding Mercedes-Benz owners for use on public roads.

I only ever have them fitted when off-road - or on private property, honestly.!!

They are NEVER fitted when I am on public roads - that would be terribly illegal, and VERY VERY naughty.

And can you tell they are shy just by looking at them?

Thanks

If you read the rules with DVLC they say that illegally spaced letters can be confiscated.

I have the same problem but live with it

I had a Bentley Flying Spur last year and had KJS SPUR (KJ is my wife's initials). however, I sold it after 10 months cos I just couldn't mind the time to drive it, and I hated seeing it getting dirty and depreciating on our driveway ! - I bought the number plate from the DVLC for £499.00 BTW

and do those plates actually work

The company say they do - and even provide a guarantee, which pays compensation if they don't. Visit the site and you will see what I mean.

I have taken flash digital photographs from 4/5m+ - and all I get is a blank plate.

Having said that, armed with MK 1 eyeball, satnav and snooper, I would have to be a real idiot to get 'flashed' whilst on a public road.

Obviously I have to be careful what I say on here - just be assured that IF I were unfortunate to pass through a privately-owned Gatso, whilst on private property, I would have a high level of confidence that my plate would be unreadable. ;);)

EZ.ML270,

ANPR systems don't use flash, infra red I believe nor do "hand helds"

I am given to understand that there is even a growing trend to go back to the old days, 2 plods, Mark I eyeballs, 2 stop watches over measured distance & a pocket calculator!

A lot of ANPR vehicles have 5 cameras (3 rear & 2 front). They can easily process 2 lanes of traffic at 70+mph as well. They are not interested in speeding though for the most part, unless your going psycho

GATSO are the most common, it is those which flash. SPECS use infra-red and calculate average speed. Hand-held are Laser.
