I have a 6 year old Granddaughter who would love to travel in the front of my car - she uses a booster seat - can I ask for advice please?
Thank you I will try the booster seat - her Gramps has three cars two being classics and they love to sit in them but we have been told not to take them anywhereAs you don’t have rear seats... then as long as they have a suitable child seat for forward facing then no issues. Give her some lasting memories of Grandads‘s German whip
Who told you? Parents can be a little protective at times...Thank you I will try the booster seat - her Gramps has three cars two being classics and they love to sit in them but we have been told not to take them anywhere
and the head got stuck between the seats during braking..!!!and we used to stand up in the back of a car peering between the two front seats ..... seat belt? What seat belt?!?!
Kid's seats these days are more than just a booster seat that my kids used. My 5 yr old grand daughter's seat has a base & a back rest that incorporates a guide for the car's seat belt so the belt should always be in the correct place overt the child's shoulder. Also has Isofix that holds the seat rigid into the car's seat - obviously not all seats have them nor all car seats have the anchor points. The real consideration is the height of the child, in terms of how close the cross of the seat belt is to the neck for safety reasons.
With our heads out of the sunroofand we used to stand up in the back of a car peering between the two front seats ..... seat belt? What seat belt?!?!

We were more daring EmilysDad, we used to stand up on the front seat with our hands resting on the dashboard. My Sister and I used to do all sorts of things, the best being taken for rides on Dads motorbike (Matchless 650) sitting on the petrol tank
Nowadays, your dad would have been fined, reported to social services and vilified in the Sun and soshul meedya.I can remember standing on the running boards of my Dads Vespa (aged about three and a half) using his knees to stay upright, lol. Just a short jaunt down the lane and not very fast, although, at that age I thought it was. I think the kids today miss out on so much due to the 'elf and safety Nazis.

Sadly true Peter, and as a child I would have missed out on the quality time that we spent together and the parent/child bonding that so many don't get these days due to their fathers being total dicks and not being around.Nowadays, your dad would have been fined, reported to social services and vilified in the Sun and soshul meedya.
Yep kids have missed out in so many ways. I suspect for a lot of them their memories will be confined to when they got their new games console or mobile phone and the hours they spent isolated ( but "safe") playing on these.Sadly true Peter, and as a child I would have missed out on the quality time that we spent together and the parent/child bonding that so many don't get these days due to their fathers being total dicks and not being around.
I know that a lot of the "new rules" are to protect the child but, they were more innocent days with the accent being on "fun" in the family, between children and their parents.
My father spent so much time at work (two jobs to support his family) that it was an occasion and an event to spend time with him which, me and my three brothers looked forward to and enjoyed immensly when it happened.
