I have a Y-Reg E320 CDI estate and have heard that these can be "chipped" to improve all aspects of performance, particularly fuel economy and torque. Does anyone have any advice as to the best chip and where to source it from? Also, are there downsides to doing this?

I have upgraded my ML 270CDI with an Australian chip with very acceptable results. MUCH more responsive engine with better torque. Economy seems to be about the same but would depend on the big right foot - more power used means more fuel used.

Downside - None obvious at this stage. I imagine that if one was to use all the extra power all of the time, one would lessen the engine life. Sensible use would not be noticeably detrimental. Using high revs is the biggest killer of diesels.
