I have seen a few Mercs about with Chrome Arches, but never a 190. Does anyone know if they are made for this model, and possibly an idea of the price?
What I meant to say earlier was,I have taken mine off, (cause' I think they look crapp too!),and there are no horrors eg-rust,so they must have put on right from the word go.
Like Dave said they dont "tarting up".
I shall heed your advice chaps, the shop can keep em!!
ps andy, i have a little rust patch appearing on the back wheel arch (due to a substandard repair that was carried out a few years back) hence the other reason for the arches!!!!! - i have bene found out before i even fitted them!!
On a serious note for all of you reading this. 190/124/126/116 all of em. Especially estates. Check and clean you wheel arches regualary. Inside the lip. Thats where all the dirt collects and start rotting the vehicles arches with out you knowing. Dont use a metal object to get it out. Use a blunt instrument or plastic so you don't damage the sealent. Most 124/123 Estates rear arches will have this. On 124 front wings remove the plastic cover and get to the front of the wing by the indicator. They seem to rot there as well.
The later cars seem to resist this better. But if you know before it happens you can keep your car in prestine condition (except if its red).
PS Forgot to mention. On the early 124 the dirt collects on the front of the rear wheel arch. You will see what I mean when you have a look. On the later cars there is a plug which fits there to stop the dirt. Early cars are upto 88, later 89onwards. Or those with the face lift. Identified with the broad mouldings down the side of the vehicle.
I found that a 130 bar pressure washer got my wheel arches pristine !! It is just mine , or is everyones engine bay imaculate? My engine bay looks factory new and has not been blasted . All the labels are still white. and everything looks nice and shiny . Maybe its just mine..
I think it must be yours, cause' mine certainly isn't,I mean it isn't filthy but you couldn't "eat your dinner off it".
But I am going to clean it,if this damm weather clears up.
Fuzzer, mines the same, i have cleaned it recently, but it wasnt really dirty in the first place. I think what helps is having the belly pan, which stops all the crap from flying up from the road.
Mine is spotless too, mind you if there was any trace of oil leaks i would fix them, and the jet it off, i can't stand dirty engine compartments, after all its part of the car, we clean the outside, hoover the interior, so why not under the bonnet??
My old '86 190E was looking very tired, dirty, greasy under the bonnet and that had an undertray. However, my C class is, as you say, immaculate. The engine bay looks like it's just come out of the factory.
