im aware there is a vast amount of general car related knowledge out there so im hoping someone will be able to chew tha fat on an issue I have with my 57 reg citroen dispatch , the other day after getting to my destination , trouble free , I arrived to find I hand somehow lost reverse gear , it soon transpired that I had also lost 5th gear too , im thinking its a selector fork problem and also hoping I wont have to replace the gearbox , any thoughts folks ( please keep it topic related , I know its French etc blah blah )

More likely a selector mechanism issue I would have thought unless the selector fork has become detached from the rod.

Listen at the gearbox as someone engages 5 and neutral. If there's a click it's likely the fork has detached. No noise at the gearbox suggests a linkage issue.

whats bugging me LK , is there was no clunks or bangs , I used 5th several times on the 17 miles trip , it was only on reaching the end and going to reverse into a space I realised I'd lost something , the gear cables are new and are moving to the right places , there just isn't anything there for 5th / rev and by that I mean the stick goes to each position the springs back to 3rd / 4th position
