I have a blown bulb on the vent wheels below the center dash vent, does anyone know how to remove this panel so I can replace the bulb.

thanks for that, already had a look at this site as its been useful in the past, I think I need to remove the sun glasses cubby box above the center vents, this should give me access to remove the vents and then I can remove the vent roller panel to chnage the bulb, trouble is nothing seems to come apart easily and I dont want to force anything. Just getting the top cubby box removed would be the biggest help, two screws removed and the box seems to move but is still attached where the buttons are.

Hi jib,

I'm not that familiar with the C140 but I know it shares some parts with the R129. This video may give you an idea of how things come apart:

on the CL the wood trim is on the roller panel, not sure I want to lever that off, I will see if I can remove the glove box lock first as that may give better access to the top glasses box and then shed some light on the wood removal to access the bulbs, sad thing is I took all this apart last year when I broke a 1994 S500 but cant remember how it came apart, I even saved two bulbs for the job, theyve disapeared to.

Done it!!!!

Managed to get the dash apart, I removed the lock for the glove boxes, that was the hardest part, it takes a lot of force to pull it out, then I removed the sunglasses box, two screws hold the vents in place and have to be removed, once out the bulb holders are exposed and easily removed.

ta for all you help.

The main thing is that you can now see the light ;) , the nerve racking bit is getting the trim off, as nothing looks worse than a chip on that lovely dashboard of yours.:D

Made me laugh at how easy he made it look removing the glove box lock, it took me blumin ages to get it out, twice I gave up and came back in to watch the video again.
On most cars you can look at something and work out how it comes apart, with the Mercs you cant.

So true, though I have the complete working drawings for my car,it takes a long time to work out. I shall wait till the Benz meet so that Alfie can show me how to remove the Command incase I have to.

The video was made for a US training guide for servicing R129 SLs. I have some more for 107s.
