Hi all
I have a 2000 cl500
Engine goes into limp mode when driven with check engine light on
So far I have replaced
All coil packs
All spark plugs
Ht leads
Injectors
Both cats
Cam sensor
Crank sensor
Fuel pressure ok with 4 bar constants
I’ve also sent Ecu away to be checked but passed no faults
Injectors also checked
Engine is strong and runs fine after clearing faults and when stationary
When driven check engine light comes on and misfires
Can some one please shed some light on this problem pleas e

Andrew, it’s a really complex issue. You need to get it properly diagnosed. We can’t reliably diagnose this ovvert’ interweb.

The best we can do is to direct you the nearest reliable Indy.

Ok so you have a check engine light therefore you must have an error code. What does Star say?

2005 CL500.
STAR is also about interpretation.

Go to someone who really knows the M113 and save yourself a load of money. Though, it looks like you've already spent it.

You should have stopped as it was very unlikely that all the things you changed would have made this situation. There will be one thing wrong causing this...stop spending money until you know what it is.

Good luck sorting this out Andy, please post up your findings/solution.

Distributer caps, is there any micro cracking, or damp inside,
or as Mike says above, loom damage?
As you went through the process changing bits, did any of the codes change? If yes mention it to an indie if you take it to one to diagnose.

Bits changed, are they MB / good brands/ known supplier / second hand possibly not perfect?

Main earthing points, earthing strap to engine block?

No distributor caps on an M113. That year also isn't prone to loom crumbling (1992-1996).

If we can get which cylinders are not misfiring it may give a clue. For example if they are all one bank it may suggest an issue with fuel on the other bank or a blocked exhaust etc. If they're randomly located its more difficult.

Isn't the CL500 the M119 engine?

http://forums.mbclub.co.uk/threads/sl500-119-engine-misfire.98391/

Was thinking more rodent/mechanical damage to the wiring loom.

And replacement HT leads being good quality - I've heard there are some not so good aftermarket types. - which is why I was wondering about fault codes changing during the process.

It is the M119, but that also has no dizzy cap and isn’t overly prone to biodegradeable engine looms.

Aftermarket HT leads could be a good shout however. I’ve heard of this issue in the US...

The 2000MY is an M119? The SL swapped post 97 or 98 I think.
