Hi there,

Ive been thinking I might change my CLK 320 and quite fancy a CL 500.

Can anyone tell me what I could expect mpg wise and if a CL would be a lot more upkeep than my current W208, I only do about 2000 miles a year.

Any info gratefully received.

Cheers.

lot of car for little money now days, if your doing that small mileage in a year it wont cost an awful amount, talking to malc at the last meet i belive his 500 was doing about 27 on a run, not bad for a big motor!!

I don't think your fuel costs will be your primary concern. You will probably get between 300-400 miles per tank-full depending on how you are driving, so that means you will only use about 6 or 7 tank fulls a year for 2000 miles.

Even with the low mileage you will still need a service at least every 18 months, but things like tyres and brakes won't wear quickly because of the low mileage.

You don't say what model you are looking at, but depreciation will almost certainly be your main cost, as although prices are low now, they will almost certainly continue to fall as large engined cars are probably going to have a very limited market in the future. Unless you buy a "classic" it will probably continue to depreciate at about 50% every 3 years.

As a comparison I have a '98 Cl 420 which only does about 15-17 mpg in heavy urban driving but will do over 25 mpg out of town when cruising.
